Upgrading

Can you upgrade online or just phone? Has anyone seen stewards checking this season? I haven't but I haven't been looking for them.

This was in the first few months when the ticket office were agreeable to upgrading U16 ST's to adult for the rest of this season ( they've now stopped doing this). I was told that I would however have to commit to renewing next season which, of course, I was happy to do. I didn't however have to sign anything to this effect nor was my cc immediately debited.
But now you can now only upgrade on a match by match basis and at WH's matchday prices, minus a few £'s for the kid's ticket already paid for. This means that you can pay as much as an extra £71 just for doing the right thing by upgrading to adult! The box office don't even give you a paper match ticket for this, all they do is press a few buttons so that the upgrade is noted on your access card. Don't know about others, but if I can't get a junior to come along I'm just going to let the seat remain empty in future. More space for my things! But I suppose I also get the option of a guaranteed seat for the few occasions that I am willing to pay near official matchday prices...

Yeah, tell me about it! But I did upgrade one of my son's tickets in September when I was told that they expected a 2 year commitment from me i.e. I have to renew next season, which I was happy to agree to. The change in policy seems to be quite recent.

The club has changed mate, it's not the same. Upgrading last year was based on how you describe.

No, not quite. Even on a match by match basis, I would expect to pay something like the corresponding ST price for an adult, plus a handling/admin charge - and not be done for the full matchday ticket price of between £23-£71 depending on the match category and your seat's price band. When the ticket office were still upgrading the u16 for the rest of the season, it was on a pro-rata basis and minus the cost of any matches already played. What could be fairer than that?
I also happen to think that ST holders who are just upgrading occasionally should not be treated like those who have won a ticket ballot and charged full matchday prices. Or is the general consensus that it is reasonable for WH to make up to £71 profit on each kid's upgraded £5 ticket?

How would it be less profitable? It'd cost the same as if you did it every game individually.

Just been told that the ticket office will now only upgrade to adult on a match-by-match basis (you used to be able to upgrade your U16 ST for the rest of the season but as this is obviously much less profitable, they've put a stop to that!).
Whatever happened to their "affordable tickets" policy?!!!

Go in through the end turnstyle and ensure that someone with an adult ticket goes in before you to check the coast is clear.

I used to upgrade regularly but won't be doing so again after the club refused to upgrade my tickets for the Chelsea league cup game.

Occasionally someone will be detailed to check the U16's going through the turnstiles. Last time I saw someone doing this was against Burnley, but I can only recall one other match where I saw checks being made on the coloured lights which flash when your access card or paper ticket is scanned,
The stewards are however much more concerned about stopping you from bringing drinks in (supposedly in case they're thrown). But apparently it's OK you buy a bottle of small water for £2.80 once inside!

We normally phone mate, and I have seen stewards behind the turnstiles. you going to Man Utd?
